SmartVista Front-End provides the acquiring of transactions generated at POS terminals installed at merchant locations. The following POS application protocols are supported:

  • Visa II (J and K);

  • ISO 8583.
The following is an example of transaction types supported for the ISO 8583 protocol:

  • Host sign-on;

  • Host sign-off;

  • Echo test;

  • Terminal key change;

  • Purchase;

  • Purchase pre-authorisation;

  • Purchase completion;

  • Cash withdrawal with a debit card (Cash Back);

  • Cash withdrawal with a credit card (Cash Advance);

  • Mixed transaction (Purchase and Cash Back);

  • Balance inquiry;

  • Cancellation of the previous transaction (Void/Reversal);

  • Cancellation of a selection transaction (Return/Refund);

  • End-of-day settlement;

  • End-of-day batch upload.
For transactions involving PIN entry, two PIN block formats are supported, 01 and 03.

Apart from the two above-mentioned reversal types that are generated by the POS terminal, SmartVista Front-End will itself generate a POS transaction reversal on the expiry of a configurable time-out period to receive a confirmation from the external host of the Card Scheme network where the authorisation request has been routed.

POS terminal configurations are stored in the SmartVista Front-End database and include all the details required to identify the merchant, merchant outlet and terminal to SmartVista and the Card Networks and to specify the current business day, currency, etc. The database also holds control totals for each POS terminal and batch totals for each business day closed at each device.

For language support, receipt and screen layout, etc., SmartVista relies on the POS terminal software.
