BPC’s evolution of its solution offering goes way back to the mid-90s, a time of extensive growth in the East European emerging banking sector. Confronted with fierce competition from the mature markets, financial organizations needed to transform their processes and to invest heavily in modern IT infrastructure, to stay ahead. As the importance of IT to the business was growing, the choice of a solution that would deliver the required business impact at a minimum long-term cost was becoming a strategic priority.

Leveraging on our knowledge of international banking practices, our ability to respond to ever changing market requirements, and an industrial approach to business, in the late 1990s we embarked on a new initiative to take to the market a conceptually new solution for EFT and payment processing. BPC SmartVista Suite was conceived and developed as a fully functional, hot-pluggable, Open Systems solution, incorporating EMV and e-commerce with full hardware independence.

There was a strong demand for SmartVista solutions both in the emerging markets and in the areas where card processing had achieved the highest levels of IT maturity. Legacy systems based on ageing proprietary platforms and inflexible software applications that dominated in Asia Pacific and the Middle East acted as a barrier to growth and ability to exploit new business opportunities. To breakthrough this logjam, an access to multi-channel, multi-platform, interoperable systems was required.

Using our project experience, accumulated in the rapidly changing financial sector, today we operate in diverse business environments where the challenges facing financial institutions are enormous and where the plastic card comes to be seen as a far more comprehensive business vehicle than just a payment instrument.
